Cap’n Crunch® Seared Tuna

Have you ever seen cereal and tuna featured in the same recipe? Sam the Cooking Guy is here to expand your culinary horizons with this Cap’n Crunch® Seared Tuna recipe. The sweetness of this famous cereal paired with the saltiness of the fresh tuna is sure to dazzle any crowd at your next party.

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 12 pieces

2 cups regular Cap'n Crunch®
1 ‘Saku Block’ cut in half lengthwise (alternative use 2 rectangular pieces of sushi grade tuna of approximately 6 ounces each)
1/4 cup Kewpie, Japanese mayonnaise (alternatively combine 1/4 cup regular mayo & 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard)
1 teaspoon kosher salt & fresh ground pepper
1/3 cup of neutral oil for cooking oil
1 teaspoon of sriracha
1 stalk of green onion, finely chopped

Crush the Cap’n Crunch® in a Ziploc bag until fine (or in a processor) and put in a large bowl.

If not using Japanese mayo, combine regular mayo and mustard – set aside.

Lightly coat tuna with oil, season with salt & pepper before pressing down into the Cap’n Crunch® coating making sure it’s covered well on all sides.

Heat a non-stick pan really well then add ¼ cup of oil until it starts to smoke.

Add both blocks of the tuna and sear quickly on all sides until just golden (depending on hot your pan is, maybe 5-10 seconds a side) and remove from heat. Set on paper towels then slice into 1/2 inch pieces

Serve it by spreading the mayo mix on a plate, topping that with the sliced tuna and sprinkling with green onions – just be sure to get some of everything in each bite. Enjoy!
