Many dads think about grilling and a juicy steak may come to mind. These grilled steak recipes use lean cuts of beef with flavorful sauces and the right preparation techniques to keep them tender.

Another grilling staple, burgers can come in many styles and flavors. We’ve chosen a classic beef burger that’s made with mushrooms, both to add more savory flavor and decrease the need for a larger portion of beef (he’ll love it and appreciate the veggie boost!). Or you can play with tuna burgers by exploring the different textures of albacore tuna and chunk light.

Fish is delicious on the grill. But, the same flaky and tender texture that makes grilled fish so amazing also makes it a little trickier to get just right without sticking and/or falling through the grill. Thankfully, a few tricks can lead you to a successful grilled fish dish. The key is choosing the right type of fish and preparing the grill correctly. Typically, fish steaks (think salmon, halibut, or cod steaks) will do better when placed directly on the grill than fillets will. Whole fish also work well. Next, make sure to oil the preheated grates (do this with and oiled paper towel and tongs) AND the fish before grilling. Place the skin side of the fish down (if fish has skin) diagonally on the grates and wait 4-5 minutes before trying to flip (if the skin doesn’t release give it another minute.) To cook fish fillets, or more tender fish, on the grill, use a special grill pan or cook in a piece of heavy duty foil. Here are some of our favorite grilled fish recipes:

If you’ve never cooked a pork tenderloin on the grill, we highly recommend trying it. The flavor is amazing, and if you do it right you’ll end up with a perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful tenderloin. The trick is in the marinade and the cooking time, both of which this recipe from Grilling Companion will help you with. Serve with one of the grilled veggie recipes below and roasted or grilled potatoes.

There’s more to grilling than protein! Most types of veggies do well on the grill, even lettuce! The recipes below are sure to please even the pickiest of taste buds. Try the mushrooms as a perfect compliment to steak or the veggie platter if you’re entertaining for a crowd and want something beautiful to present.
