Bumble Bee Seafoods Announces National Introduction of New Prime Fillet Pink Salmon Steaks

Leading Brand Brings Premium Ready-to-Heat Salmon Steaks to Dinner Table, Follows on Success of First Bumble Bee Entrée Product

San Diego, Calif., April 18, 2006 – You can now enjoy salmon without the fuss of preparation thanks to new premium and ready-to-heat, entrée-style whole salmon steaks that bring a high-quality seafood meal to the dinner table in minutes. Popular American household brand Bumble Bee has announced its national introduction of Prime Fillet Pink Salmon Steaks aimed at providing consumers with high-quality, affordable and easy-to-prepare seafood entrée options.

According to Bumble Bee Chief Executive Officer Christopher Lischewski, the new ready-to-heat salmon steaks are an extension of the brand’s successful entry into the ‘dinner’ category last year with Prime Fillet Albacore Steaks. He said, “We’re pleased with how consumers have responded to our first entrée product under our premium Prime Fillet label and are thrilled to follow up on the success of that tuna product with a salmon offering.”

Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Pink Salmon Steaks come in individual servings of 100 percent natural, grilled and firm whole pink salmon steak packaged in easy-open, vacuum-sealed pouches. The steaks are available in two seasoned varieties – Teriyaki and Lemon & Dill.

“When you consider consumer trends and how they continually evolve, convenience is always a recurring theme,” said Lischewski. “Recent research has indicated that as much as 92 percent of the population consumes a ready-to-eat product on a daily basis.”

He added, “We’re also seeing that consumers are paying closer attention to and acting on messages about health and nutrition. This has become increasingly important and we’re excited to provide conveniently packaged entrée options that share the many healthy benefits of fresh fish.”

American Heart Association guidelines recommend “eating fish (particularly fatty fish) at least two times a week.” AHA cites “mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon” as food sources that are “high in omega-3 fatty acids.”

Omega-3 fatty acids have been found to improve heart health, reduce risk of heart disease and hypertension, and aid in mental health.

“As a trusted brand, it’s imperative to Bumble Bee that we provide sources of nutrition that help improve consumers’ quality of life and that includes their health. We hope that they enjoy the healthfulness and convenience of our new Prime Fillet Pink Salmon Steaks,” Lischewski concluded.

Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Pink Salmon Steaks are now available in supermarkets nationwide. Suggested retail price is $2.99 per four-ounce pouch.
