When it comes to working out on vacation, I fall somewhere in the middle of “I have to do this” and “I want to do this”. I never make working out an actual priority, yet I know I’ll feel better if I squeeze one in. We recently headed to the beach for a few days, and I chose to run one of the mornings. I had an inkling that it would be my only workout of the trip, so I chose to make it a little more difficult than my typical beach miles. I combined sprints with bodyweight moves for a super sweaty and super satisfying workout.
This is a great vacation-friendly workout because it just involves moving (walking, jogging, or running all count) paired with a few body weight moves. As far as a quarter-mile is concerned, I just eyeballed it! For a description of each move, see below.
Lunges: Stand up straight with your shoulders back. Step forward with one leg, lowering your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. Your front knee should be directly above your foot and your back knee shouldn’t touch the ground. Keep the weight in your heels as you push back up to the starting position. One lunge per side equals one rep.
Push Ups: Get into full plank position, which your body forming a straight line from head to toe. Lower your chest to the ground. Lift yourself back up into the starting position.
Squats: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart with your knees over your toes. Keeping your spine straight and abs tight begin bending at the knees. Squat until your thighs are parallel to the ground (or lower) and then drive through your heels to stand back up.
What about you? Are you a “vacation should be vacation” person, or do you try to fit a workout in if you can?
