Hate Running? Here are 5 Races You’ll Love

Let’s face it, not everyone is a fan of running. While it’s certainly not the only way to work out and stay in shape, it can be an affordable, fun sport to pick up. For me, the best part of running is the social aspect. I love taking part in races, especially when friends or family tag along. The only problem I’ve come across is that there are plenty of people who’d rather do anything other than “just run” for miles and miles. That’s when I bust out the themed races. With the wide variety of races available these days, even the most reluctant runners can find one they’ll enjoy.

Below are five races and events that almost anyone would enjoy taking part in!

The X-Race While they haven’t announced the 2016 dates, I am anxiously awaiting them! The X-Race is a national adventure racing series held in major cities across the country. You’ll solve clues, get to checkpoints around the city, and complete challenges with your team. Using real-time validation and judging, you’ll submit pictures and video of your team completing tasks as you go.  When you get to the Finish Line, you and your team will celebrate and recover with food, drinks, and socialize with other finishers.

ROC Race Also known as the Ridiculous Obstacle Challenge, this race is a game show-inspired obstacle run. The obstacles include the “infamous Wrecking Ball, the menacing Sweeper, the hilariously challenging Jump Balls, and of course, the Hippo – the World’s Largest Inflatable Water Slide!” It’s an untimed event, which makes it perfect for all different levels of athletes. Just make sure to bring someone along to take pictures and videos. You’re not going to want to miss the wipeouts!

The Color Run This is touted as the “Happiest 5k on the Planet” and I can see why. The Color Run is less about your speed and more about the amount of fun you can have getting to the finish. The untimed 5-kilometer race takes you through color stations where you’ll be doused with a different color at each kilometer.  There are only two rules: 1. Wear white at the starting line and 2.  Finish plastered in color. The only thing more fun than the race in the after-party!

Hot Chocolate 5k When it comes to fun runs, I couldn’t leave this chocolate-themed race series off of the list. You can choose to run the 5 or 15-kilometer course, but either way you’ll receive the sweetest finisher’s swag around. Every single participant receives a finisher’s mug with hot chocolate, chocolate fondue, and all sorts of things to dip in each of them. Talk about motivation to get through the miles as fast as possible. Of course, you’ll also receive great race support and a medal for your hard work. But, did I mention the chocolate? That’s all you really need, right?

Dirty Girl Mud Run Looking for a fun women’s only race? Look no further. This race is a 5k obstacle course that is great for beginners and pros alike. With over 900,000 participants in the past few years, you know it’s a great race. In addition to being the perfect idea for a girls’ weekend, the race partners with Bright Pink®, a national non-profit that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women.

These runs look like a lot of fun.. I have knee problems and cannot run, however these particular runs would definitely inspire other women.
