If you’re busy making Independence Day plans, don’t forget to throw in a little physical activity. While I am a supporter of fully celebrating holidays, I also think it’s important to get moving when you have the chance. If you have time in your schedule for a workout or a run, go for it. You’ll look and feel your best, and you’ll have more energy to enjoy the day. Need a little inspiration? Check out this list of Fourth of July fitness activities below.
HOST A FAMILY FIELD DAY
One of the best ways to squeeze in a workout, in my opinion, is with some friendly competition for the whole family. You might be surprised just how much work a three legged race, tug of war, or freeze tag can be when you’re out there trying to win. And, honestly, what’s better than bragging rights for an entire year?
RUN A FOURTH OF JULY RACE
Grab your most patriotic running gear and sign up for a local race. From 5Ks to marathons, you can find just about any type of event all over the country. For a list of Fourth of July races, head to Running in the USA. There’s a good chance one will take place near you!
COMPLETE A THEMED WORKOUT
Sometimes, you just need to make fitness a bit more fun. Themed workouts are a great way to get motivated to work out on a holiday, and there happens to be an abundance of them online. For an added boost, why not rock out to a cheesy Independence Day playlist?
HIT THE TRAILS
If a day totally spent outdoors is more your style, hit the trails before you fire up the grill. Make a day of it by packing everything you need for lunch, including some patriotic trail mix and a spoon tuna pouch to fit your day on-the-go. After all, you’re going to need your energy to make it to the peak, right?
HEAD OUT ON THE WATER
Lakes, beaches, and pools are all perfect spots to get in a workout while soaking up some sun. It’s amazing how many water sports are also incredible workouts. From water skiing and swimming to kayaking and paddle boarding, there is something for everyone out on the water.
Whatever you choose to do on the Fourth, remember to drink plenty of water, lather on the SPF, and have a blast!
