With so many people already looking toward to the fall, I wanted to give one last shoutout to summertime. I love celebrating Labor Day because it’s almost like one last hoorah before the hustle and bustle of the next few months. If you’re heading to a party, but want to stay on track with your healthy eating and exercising, you’re in luck. It can definitely be done!
Below our four smart Labor Day health tips:
1. Snack Smartly
When it comes to summer barbecues and parties, many people have a tendency to munch their way through the day instead of sitting down for full meals. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially if you grab filling, protein-packed snacks every few hours. Some good choices include hummus and veggies, shrimp cocktail, low-sodium beef jerky, string cheese, and almonds.
2. Drink Up
I cannot stress this enough: stay hydrated. Many times, people confuse thirst for hunger. The last thing you want is to feel hungry when you’ve already had plenty to eat. And, I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but remember to drink a glass of water between beers or cocktails. While we’re on the subject of alcohol, you may want to skip any sugary sweet concoctions. The calories can add up quickly.
3. Get Moving
The absolute best advice for any day of the week is just to be as active as possible. Head out for a morning jog before the festivities start, play a game of flag football during the party, or wind down with a long walk at the end of the night. My favorite summer workout, though, is hitting the water. The options are truly limitless!
4. Don’t Stress
When it’s all said and done, Labor Day is just that: a day. You won’t make or break your health and fitness goals in 24 hours, so don’t stress over it. While trying to eat well and stay active is always a good idea, so is enjoying quality time with friends and family. Do your best to make smart choices throughout the day, but also remember to let loose and have some fun.
