Bumble Bee Seafoods Launches New Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts

Leading Household Brand Brings First Premium Shelf-Stable Ready-to-Eat Chicken Breasts to the Dinner Table, Follows on Success of Prime Fillet Entrées with America’s Favorite Protein

San Diego, Calif., January 22, 2007 —Preparing chicken, America’s favorite protein, has been made easier thanks to new premium and ready-to-eat, entrée-style whole chicken breasts that bring a great tasting, nutritious meal to the dinner table in minutes. Following the success of its Prime Fillet seafood products, popular American household brand has announced the national launch of Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts, offering consumers chicken entrée options that are high-quality, affordable and easy to prepare.

Each individual four-ounce serving of Prime Fillet Chicken Breast contains a 100 percent skinless and boneless grilled chicken breast that is fully cooked and kept fresh in an easy-open, vacuum-sealed pouch. Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts are available in three seasoned varieties: Garlic & Herb, Southwest Seasonings and Barbeque Sauce.

“In developing this exciting new product, we wanted to provide dinner solutions that are not only very simple to prepare, but those that can be a part of a nutritious meal,” said Bumble Bee Chief Executive Officer Christopher Lischewski. “Favored for its mild flavor, versatility and terrific nutritional profile, we’re making chicken even more accessible with the assurance of quality under our premium banner of Prime Fillet.™”

Lischewski explained that as part of the research the brand undertook to develop Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts, it discovered that 36 percent of consumers would increase poultry consumption if it was quicker to prepare. “Chicken is such a popular choice among Americans. Given our increasingly busy lifestyles, this is a quality product that is responsive to the continuing demand for convenience with an equally important focus on good nutrition and health.”

He added, “Bumble Bee is a trusted brand that’s been around for over 100 years. With issues surrounding obesity and other health conditions, it’s imperative that we contribute to helping improve the quality of life of America’s families by offering convenient options of their favorite foods so they can make the right meal choices.”

Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts were recently previewed at an exclusive luncheon at The Culinary Loft in SoHo, New York. Media food editors sampled a menu selection featuring the new products in creative yet simple recipes developed by noted Food Author and Food Consultant Joie Warner. Warner—a best selling, award-winning cookbook author—is one of the country’s most prolific authors in her genre with over 25 cookbooks. Currently working on a new book to accompany her upcoming PBS cooking special and television series, she has created a variety of entrée and sandwich recipes for each Prime Fillet Chicken Breast with unique complements of easy-to-prepare ingredients.

Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts mark the first extension of Bumble Bee’s premium line beyond seafood. According to Lischewski, Bumble Bee was encouraged by the high demand for products such as Prime Fillet Albacore Steaks and Prime Fillet Salmon Steaks. He said Bumble Bee’s evolution into chicken entrées aligns with the brand’s mission to provide superior quality shelf-stable products that are also good for you.

Prime Fillet Chicken Breasts are now available on store shelves nationwide. Suggested retail price is $2.99 per four-ounce pouch.

Preparation for each serving of Prime Fillet Chicken Breast is as easy as heating for only 30 seconds in the microwave. It can also be heated for 10 minutes in the oven or three to four minutes on a stovetop. Alternatively, try out some delicious home-style recipe classics like the following Chicken Parmigiana.

Chicken Parmigiana: Prime Fillet Chicken Breast Lightly Seasoned with Garlic & Herb Served in Marinara Sauce

Recipe developed by Joie Warner – award-winning, best-selling author of over 25 cookbooks. Visit her online at www.joiewarner.com.

Traditionally made by coating chicken breasts in bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, then fried in oil, this quick-and-easy version is served the way most Americans prefer it – cooked with tomato sauce and lots of melted mozzarella cheese. This all-time family favorite is put together with Prime Fillet Chicken Breast Lightly Seasoned with Garlic & Herb and topped with store-bought grated cheese and bottled tomato sauce. Add some bagged salad greens, a simple side of pasta and some crusty bread and you have a satisfying supper that’s as fast as it is delicious.

Lemon Orzo

1/4 cup orzo

1 teaspoon butter

1/8 teaspoon salt or to taste

A few grinds of the pepper mill

Grated zest from 1/2 medium lemon

1 1/2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

1 1/2 teaspoons grated Romano cheese

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or flat-leaf parsley

Chicken Parmigiana

1 4-ounce pouch Prime Fillet Chicken Breast Lightly Seasoned with Garlic & Herb

1 tablespoon grated romano cheese

1/4 cup bottled tomato sauce

1/2 cup finely grated mozzarella cheese

Chiffonade of basil leaves or chopped flat-leaf parsley for garnish (optional)

Accompaniments

Handful of mixed baby greens

Vinaigrette, homemade or store-bought

Two buttered slices crusty baguette

1. Make the lemon orzo by cooking the orzo in a saucepan of boiling, salted water according to the package directions or until al dente. Remove from heat and drain well, then return to the pan and toss with the butter, salt, pepper, lemon zest, lemon juice, and cheese. Stir in the chopped basil or parsley.

2. Spoon the orzo in the center of a large dinner plate to form a round base of about 4-inches.

3. Drain the Prime Fillet Chicken Breast Lightly Seasoned with Garlic & Herb, discarding the liquid.

4. Top the lemon orzo with the drained chicken fillet. Sprinkle the romano cheese over the chicken. Spoon the tomato sauce over the cheese, then top with the finely grated mozzarella cheese. (It may seem like a lot of cheese, but it covers the sauce to help prevent it from spattering while cooking).

5. Microwave the chicken parmigiana and lemon orzo, uncovered, for about 3 minutes or just until heated through and the cheese is melted. Check to make sure the chicken is hot all the way through and cook several seconds more, if necessary. Garnish the chicken with the basil or parsley, if desired.

6. Toss the mixed greens with a light drizzle of vinaigrette in a small bowl and arrange it next to the chicken parmigiana. Place the bread slices on the plate and serve at once.

Serves 1 (This recipe is easily doubled, tripled and so on as it is basically assembly.)
