Stay Healthy with Bumble Bee The USDA recently announced their new dietary guidelines, and with concerns for health and nutrition growing, Bumble Bee Foods is taking a proactive approach to help you lead a healthful life:
- As a founding member of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, Bumble Bee is committed to working to reduce obesity in America. The HWCF hopes to achieve their goal of reducing obesity, especially childhood obesity, by 2015. Two ways we're helping to reach that goal is a recent sodium reduction across our canned tuna products, and our signature BeeWell for Life campaign.
- In 2010 Bumble Bee reduced sodium across its canned albacore and light meat tuna products. The reduction across our canned albacore products, the brand's best sellers, qualify them as "low sodium" products, based on Food and Drug Administration rules stating that all foods labeled as "low sodium" must contain 140 milligrams or less of sodium.
- Our BeeWellforLife.com site is a great resource to help you be and stay healthy with a variety of tools and expert blogs that promote easy, simple steps toward a healthier lifestyle. As an added incentive, Bumble Bee also donates $0.10/mile to the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization for every mile participants walk, run or bike and log through the website. Signing up to log miles is free, easy and the donations generated go towards a great cause. Over 1.5 million miles have been logged since the program began in 2008 generating over $450,000 in donations to Y-ME. Join us!
March is National Nutrition Month The theme of this year's National Nutrition Month is to "Eat Right with Color." To encourage healthy eating habits, the American Dietetic Association is encouraging people to remember to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and dairy on their plates at every meal. The different colors of these foods indicate that they're packed with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that keep you and your family healthy. Each color boasts its own set of benefits which is why it is so important to choose a variety of them to include in your meals.
Add some color to your plate and "Eat Right with Color" with these tasty Bumble Bee recipes:

The "Eat Right with Color" campaign also encourages parents to take the time to make sure their kids are getting all of the nutrients they need to grow and strive. Here are some ways you can get your child excited about eating healthy:
- Get your child involved when you do your grocery shopping. Allowing kids to pick out a new healthful food or product to try, or simply helping to select the food they will see at each meal, makes them more likely to try new foods and feel a part of meal planning.
- Allow your child to help you prepare meals or snacks in the kitchen. Whether it is washing fruits and vegetables and mixing ingredients for younger children or reading recipes and cutting items for older kids, getting your child involved in preparing meals is fun way to spend some time together and also teach them about nutrition!
- And after the meal is prepared, sit down as a family. Enjoy the wonderful, colorful meal and the quality time to share stories of each other's days.
