How to Keep Fit During Grilling Season

How to Keep Fit During Grilling Season

Even though you might be in the mood for feasting on everything in sight, the best way keep fit during barbecues and grill fests is to find balance and practice moderation. Let’s take a look at some healthy picnic ideas for you and your family.

This colorful fruit is rich in Vitamin C and can be sliced ahead of time to avoid a sticky mess. Cut the watermelon into bite-size chunks and store them at a cool temperature in a sealed container.

Crudités Platter
One of the most refreshing treats on a summer’s day is a crudités platter. This crunchy, raw vegetable platter is the perfect picnic snack, and with a low fat cream cheese or plain yogurt dipping sauce, it will be rather low calorie. A crudités platter is the perfect substitution for chips and dip.

Deviled Eggs
Hard-boiled eggs are the perfect protein snack for your healthy picnic. You can also prepare these ahead of time by boiling 3-6 eggs at a time in a medium sized pot for 8-10 minutes. Leave these to cool and then shell the eggs. Combine the egg yolks with mayonnaise, paprika and sweet chili to form a tasty filling for the egg white halves.

Flavored Water
Serve ice-cold flavored water instead of sugary soda drinks. This can be done by adding fresh sliced lemon, cucumber, and lime to a jar of ice and water. This will be so cooling and full of flavor that your family won’t miss a thing. If you want some fizz, you can also add soda water to the mix, or even make some homemade iced tea.

Fresh Berries
If you want to continue the Independence Day spirit, you can decorate your fruit plate with blueberries and strawberries in the shape of the American Flag.

Frozen Treats
Frozen grapes and blueberries have become a hit among health enthusiasts. Instead of slurping on sugary ice cream, opt for nature’s sweet treat instead. Separate the grapes from the stem and freeze overnight. You will be surprised at how full of flavor this treat can be.

Instead of focusing strictly on food during grilling season, you can also include some outdoor activities to inspire your family to get some exercise. If you aren’t into group exercises or sports, you and your loved ones could just take a leisurely stroll after lunch. If you are feeling really ambitious, you can start up a game of kickball, volleyball, or whiffle ball to get others in on the fun!

What do you do to stay healthy around barbecues and grill parties?
