Finding Time for Fitness While Traveling

A woman runs outdoors on a path with trees focusing on her travel fitness

The spring and summer months are a great time for traveling, but they are also a great time to focus on reaching your health and fitness goals. Balancing the two can be difficult, especially if you are just starting out. The good news is that you can definitely enjoy your vacations while continuing on your fitness journey. All travel fitness takes is a little motivation and a solid game plan.

Travel Fitness Tips

Focus on Fresh Foods
Eating healthy meals doesn’t have to be boring. The key is to eat fresh, whole foods prepared in fun and unique ways. Local spices and flavors will take your meals to another level, and I promise you won’t miss all of the processed foods. You should also keep a few pre-packaged options handy for when your choices are limited. Ready-to-Eat Kits with crackers are a perfect solution because they are delicious, better-for-you, and incredibly convenient.

Limit Liquid Calories
When it comes to your calorie intake on vacation, liquids can be hard to monitor. It’s hard to pass up a good drink! One way to combat this is to play favorites. If you know you’ll have wine with dinner, skip that afternoon latte. You don’t have to cut liquid calories out completely, but you should only be drinking the ones you know you’ll really enjoy.

Take in the Sights
The best way to get active on vacation is to get up and explore. It doesn’t matter if you walk, jog, run, or hike. Just lace up your tennis shoes and head out on foot. Whether you join a tour or go at it solo, you’ll be able to see and explore things that you may not have noticed otherwise. You’ll never know what’s out there until you start looking around!

Research the Workout Scene
Another fun way to break a sweat on vacation is to workout like the locals. Is there a yoga studio down the block, or does it seem like everyone is heading to spin class? If you’re near the water, try paddle boarding or surfing. If you’re further inland, head out for a hike or hit the slopes. Go ahead and try something new. You’ll certainly be glad you did.

Have a Back Pocket Workout
When all else fails, keep a great bodyweight workout in your back pocket. A quick Google search will yield hundreds of options, but you can also create your own. Any combination of moves will work as long as you’re up and moving. Some examples include squat jumps, push-ups, and planks. All of these can be done anywhere at any time.

With a little planning, and these travel fitness tips, you’ll be able to feel and look your best no matter where your adventures take you.
